Edwin moved to SP in November, 1948. He had decided to go into private practice there and had been offered an office in Arthur Blanchard's law office on 8th Street. However, the results of the Bar Exam were not out and he needed a job as he had a wife and a baby on the way. He went to work at Pt. Hueneme sorting nuts and bolts. He enjoyed it very much and made many lasting friendships there. He passed the Bar soon after and was sworn in as a lawyer on January 8, 1951
